2024 Apprentice Program

The Theatre SilCo Apprentice Program provides opportunities for young theatre professionals to fast track their careers with on-the-job training in their field of interest. The program bridges the gap between the educational world and the professional world by providing real work experience and credits that help build résumés and skills. Apprentices team up with department supervisors who serve as mentors and support them during their time at Theatre SilCo. 

Apprenticeship opportunities are available in several departments. Contract dates vary by position. Company housing and travel or travel stipend is provided.

As a key member of our team, you will actively contribute to the promotion of diverse performing arts experiences. This role will involve:

  • Content Creation: Assisting in the creation of compelling and visually appealing content for promotional material, social media platforms, and our website.
  • Event Promotion: Support the marketing team in promoting summer performances, classes, and special events. 
  • Community Outreach: Represent Theatre SilCo at community events, festivals, and local gatherings to enhance our presence in our community and region.
  • Data Analysis: Support the marketing team by extracting insights from tools like Google Analytics to help inform marketing strategies. This allows us to optimize campaigns and tailor our efforts for greater audience engagement.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including programming and box office, to ensure cohesive marketing efforts.

  • Enrolled in a relevant marketing, communications, or arts management program (or recently graduated)

  • Creative mindset with a willingness to contribute innovative ideas.

    • Collaborate with the marketing and philanthropic team to plan, organize, and execute captivating events including to but not limited to Farmers Markets, First Friday’s, Gala’s, and Pre-Show receptions to Post-Show gatherings.
    • Assist in coordinating logistical details, such as venue setup, catering, and entertainment, to ensure each event aligns with the unique atmosphere of Theatre SilCo.
    • Support the marketing team in promoting summer performances, classes and special events.

As a Patron Experience Apprentice your mission will be to create unforgettable experiences for our patrons. If you have a passion for delivering top-notch customer service and a love for the performing arts. 

  • Box Office Support: Manage box office hours. Engage with patrons in a friendly and informative manner, addressing their needs, answering inquiries, and leaving a lasting positive impression.
  • Exemplary Customer Service: Contribute to fostering a warm and inclusive atmosphere that goes beyond expectations, making each patron feel like part of our Theatre SilCo family.
  • Effective Communication + Outreach: Collaborate with the Marketing team to communicate upcoming productions, events, and promotions, creating anticipation and excitement. Engage patrons through various channels, building a sense of community and anticipation around each production.
  • Data + Reporting:  Help maintain accurate patron databases. Analyze patron feedback to continuously refine and elevate our offerings.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including programming and marketing, to ensure cohesive marketing efforts.

HIGH SCHOOL TEACHING ARTIST APPRENTICE

Pay: $250 per week
Dates: 6/10 – 8/9 (strong possibility summer youth camps may extend to August 31st)
Deadline: Applications due by March 4th
Length of apprenticeship: Weekly based on availability. See camp details below.

High School Teaching Artist Apprentices will assist the Seasonal Education Manager/Teaching Artist with executing and instruction for these programs. They will serve as camp staff for Theatre SilCo’s Summer Youth Workshops. The program entails teaching children ages 5 to 14. Apprentices will work closely with the Seasonal Education Manager to create lesson plans and programming for all age groups. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain teaching experience in a fast-paced summer education program. During the summer, the Education Staff is responsible for several skills and performance-based camps, including:
  • Playmakers Camps (5-7 year olds), 1 week sessions
  • Skills Based Camps (8-14 year olds), 1 week sessions
  • Production Camp: The SpongeBob Musical, Youth Edition (8-14 year olds), 3 week session
High School Apprentices can commit to any or all weeks for our youth summer camps.

Dates: 5/29 – 7/30
Length of apprenticeship: 9 weeks

The Stage Management Apprentice will report to the Production/Company Manager as well as the Production Stage Manager, and Assistant Stage Manager for the production Ken Ludwig’s Moriarty: A New Sherlock Holmes Mystery. The SM Apprentice will also serve as the PA/Crew for Ken Ludwig’s Moriarty: A New Sherlock Holmes Mystery and EMC points will be awarded for this apprenticeship if desired. 

Duties include but are not limited to observing and assisting the stage management team throughout the production process, and collaborating with and assisting artists and designers in multiple departments. Outside of rehearsals and performances, this Apprentice may observe and assist the Production/Company Manager with production related tasks or errands. 

This position requires exceptional organizational, communication, and time management skills as well as a passion for artist care. Ideal candidates should be able to multitask in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining a good attitude.

Length of apprenticeship:
12 weeks

The Production Apprentice will work with Theatre SilCo’s Technical Director, Seasonal Assistant Technical Director, and designers on a variety of different projects during the summer season.  Duties include assisting on scenic building and painting, assisting with light hang and focus for multiple productions in two different venues, assisting with electrics, sound, and scenic load-in, maintenance and production notes throughout the runs, helping with cleaning and maintaining all tech areas and backstage areas, helping with load-in procedures for special events and productions, and running backstage crew positions as assigned by the the Production/Company Manager. Apprentice may also assist in sound board operation and change over for the Educational Youth Theatre Workshops and special events as needed.

11 weeks

The Costume/Wardrobe Apprentice will work with the wardrobe supervisor and designers on a variety of different projects during the summer season.  Duties include: Assisting the Costume Shop Manager with the design construction for productions, maintenance of costume pieces and daily laundering needs in rehearsal and performance, running a backstage crew position during performances, assisting with changeover and load-in procedures for productions and special events, and cleaning and maintaining costumes, costume areas, and other backstage areas.  

Candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Theatre SilCo Apprentices earn a weekly meal stipend of $300.00
  • Housing Provided
  • Travel or travel stipends provided as needed.
  • Free public transportation is available with local bus shuttles.
  • Length of apprenticeships vary by department
