Director of Education and Community Outreach Job Description:

The Director of Education and Community Outreach will be responsible for all aspects of the LDTC’s Educational programming and Community Outreach.  This is includes (but not limited to):  Youth Workshops, Adult Educational Programming, Play Club, LDTC’s Prologues and Epilogues, Educational Trips, Dual Language Project, Family Musical Series, LDTC Apprentice Program, and In-School Arts Integration.  The Educational Director is responsible for the creation, implementation, and monitoring of educational budgets.   Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Youth Workshop Responsibilities:

  • Summer/Fall/Spring Workshops
    • In coordination with Artistic Director, selection of shows
    • Creation/assist in creation of Marketing materials and marketing plan for enrollment
    • Enrollment oversight of program
    • Solicitation/interviewing/hiring of staff (when applicable)
    • Creation and implementation of curriculum
    • Teach/direct/produce workshop
    • Develop and manage curriculum and lesson plan format to be used by all teachers/instructors
    • Ensure the quality of teaching/direction through observation of classes
    • Develop and implement procedures for evaluating LDTC educational programs

Adult Programming Responsibilities:

  • Play Club/Page to Stage
    • Scheduling of Play Club/Page to Stage (including but not limited to dates/location/working with directors/actors/etc)
    • Selection of plays
    • Solicitation/registration of participants
    • Organization of discussions/prepping and scheduling of special guests (when applicable)
  • Prologues/Epilogues
    • Research and preparation of prologue discussions for all theatrical productions
    • Staff preparation of prologues
    • Preparation of epilogue topics/discussions
    • Coordination of LDTC staff training for consistent prologue presentations

Educational Trips Responsibilities:

  • NYC/Theatre Trips
    • In coordination with Artistic Director, select annual theatre trips for LDTC patrons and community
    • In coordination with Artistic Director, selection of shows
    • Plan and implement trip itineraries, including scheduling of transportation, lodging, and meals
    • Creation/assist in creation of marketing materials and marketing plan for enrollment
    • Creation and scheduling of activities on trip/travel/lodging
    • Budget oversight

LDTC Apprentice Program:

  • Scheduling of Interviews for apprentice program
    • Collection of submittals
    • Online/conference/university interviews and auditions
    • Working with the Company Manager, create and disseminate contracts
    • Oversight of Program
    • Weekly meetings with each apprentice
    • Scheduling of mentors
    • Exit interviews
  • Budget management of program
    • Working with departments on management of budget
    • Working with departments in creation of scheduling and job duties

Dual Language Program (when program is active):

  • Production Creation
    • Assist in selection of show
    • Casting assistance/input
    • Scheduling of touring production
    • Organization of touring company/company management assistance
    • Evaluation/data collection from performances
    • Creative process (direction/design)

Family Musical Series (when program is active):

    • Production Creation (When program is active)
      • Assist in selection of show
      • Casting assistance/input
      • Scheduling/Logistics with off site producers (i.e. TOS/Keystone Neighborhood)
      • Evaluation/data collection from performances
      • Creative process (direction/design)

In-School Arts Integration (when program is active):

  • Outreach to administration of schools for implementation of services
    • Work with principles and teachers in creating strong integration tools
    • Creation and implementation of data/survey collection

Community Outreach:

  • Along with Executive Director and Artistic Director, develop and implement engagement strategies that extend conversations around LDTC productions and educational programs into Summit County, promote access to the institution, and demonstrate the value of the LDTC by positioning it to the center of community conversations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community leaders and organizations
  • Community conversations that bring the community together on topics related to the LDTC season, including but not limited to:
    • Post-show small group dialogues, panels and online content
    • Audience Enrichment programs such as Prologues and Epilogues
  • Work in conjunction with Marketing Department to engage targeted audiences to increase awareness of the LDTC
  • Write scrips/materials for community and special events and serve as a spokesperson for the LDTC when appropriate and as needed.
  • Along with the Artistic Director and Executive Director, serve as a public liaison at special events
  • Along with LDTC team, identify avenues and implement strategies for LDTC to support and engage with other community non-profits to enhance the quality of life in Summit County through the performing arts

Additional Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Development/Marketing
      • Assist Development Director in seeking and securing additional funding sources (i.e grants/sponsorships/etc) beyond tuition for educational programs
      • Assist Marketing Manager in procuring graphics/creation of marketing materials for educational programs
      • Assist Marketing Manager in the creation of post-program materials as it pertains to sponsorship fulfillment reports
      • Creation of post show surveys and data collection for a variety of department uses
    • House Management
      • Responsible for coordinated house management duties on selective/scheduled evenings
      • Occasional box office duties as applicable

Other Duties:

    • Other duties assigned by Artistic Director and Executive Director

Required Skills and Experience:  The ideal candidate will have experience in a professional theatre setting as a educational coordinator/director.    Candidate must possess exceptional organizational, written, and office administration.   Superior skills in verbal communication, time management, and interpersonal skills a must.   Other attributes must include confidentiality, collaboration, and being a team player.  The successful candidate must minimally have a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre or Theatre Education.    Familiarity with both Apple and Microsoft operating systems.

Salary:  Mid- $30k's - Low $40k's, Full health benefits, Competetive PTO policy
