A Letter from the Producing Artistic Director, Chris Alleman

Dear LDTC Patron,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the early closings of both MAN OF LA MANCHA and A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM.   Any decision like this is not taken lightly but because of the ongoing and substantial costs of keeping two large shows in rotation with rising COVID-19 cases amongst a large company which, so far, has forced us to cancel a dozen performances (with more on the horizon) – we have taken the forward initiative to close both shows early.

BUT, there is good news.  LOTS of good news.   Opening on August 11 in the CVA FLEX Theater is the zany, funny, and whimsical musical XANADU based on the 1982 film of the same name starring Olivia Newton John.   With familiar songs (come on, we know you know them) like Xanadu, Evil Woman, Strange Magic and Have You Ever Been Mellow we know that you will want to sing along.  We ask that you don’t, but we know you will anyway.    XANADU will run through August 31.  Don’t forget to wear your leg warmers, jean jackets, and other 80’s clothing.

Here is even MORE good news – our production of MALA  by Melisa Lopez still opens on July 29th in the HADLEY LAB Theatre.  This tour-de-force production is a comical and brutally honest look at family dynamics, including stubborn parents and unequipped children, and explores the unsentimental poetry of everyday life.

AND Even MORE good news – our production of THE REVOLUTIONISTS by Lauren Gunderson opens in the HENRY STUDIO THEATER on September 2.  If there ever was a time for us to produce a comedy about 4 kick-ass women – that time is now.   GIRL POWER all the way.  But don’t worry fellas, this show is for everyone!   Don’t let the “Girl Power” scare you.

Again, we know many of you were waiting to see FORUM or LA MANCHA, and we truly are sorry for this inconvenience.    If you have tickets for either of the shows – a box office representative will reach out via email and/or phone to assist you.   You have three options with your current tickets:

  • Exchange your current ticket(s) for tickets to XANADU.
  • Receive a full refund for your tickets (we’re sorry to see you go and miss XANADU)
  • Donate your ticket to the LDTC (we’re sorry to see you miss the shows but GREATLY appreciate you generosity)
  • If you are a subscriber – we will gladly exchange your tickets to any production at the LDTC.

THANK YOU THANK YOU for being a patron, donor or subscriber to the LDTC!   We appreciate your understanding and patience.   We know you may be saddened but we also know you’ll continue to receive high quality performances and experiences at the LDTC.

See you at the theater –

Chris Alleman
Producing Artistic Director

PS – we should all be aware that COVID cases are on the rise in the county.  We may have to reinstate our mask policy for everyone’s safety.  Stay Tuned BUT don’t let wearing a mask scare you off….it’s just the performance and you can lower it to take a drink or a bite.   The shows will be well worth wearing the mask for a couple of hours, we promise!
